Editor's review
This provides a set of tools to manipulate PDF files. Functions include split, merge, encrypt, insert or delete pages and of course creating a PDF document. All these operations do not need the Adobe tools.
Review: Smart PDF Tools help you manage and organize PDF documents with few mouse clicks. This program runs on all versions of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows, 32-bit and 64-bit. Like many such tools available as shareware/freeware, this too does not offer anything special. If you need a set of tools including creation of PDF to aid work with PDF files then this is one of the choices available. Like most offerings in this category the biggest attraction is you do not need the Adobe tools. They are quite expensive. The functions, besides creation of a document, include the ability to split a PDF, merge several documents, extracting specific pages, inserting pages, deleting pages and the ability to encrypt a document etc.
The interface is simple. You have a tabbed section that groups functionality into three including PDF tool, convert from PDF and convert to PDF tabs. On each page the available functionality is grouped and are represented by simple icons. Rest of the screen area is given over to a preview section that shows you the document you are working on.
Unlike the Adobe tools, however, you are not able to edit the document at a page level. Whatever you do is at a page level. A page, for example, can be taken out or inserted but nothing can be changed inside the page. You can convert it back to a WORD document, make the changes and come back to a PDF. That may be quite a hassle!
